Overview
Social Welfare is an independent group within the BWA. We are all BWA members who have a passion for life and who wish to help make a difference during our stay in Indonesia. There are many people in need of help and many areas in which we can help.

Committee
Our Committee are a dedicated group who distribute funds to assist the poor. Money is raised by the BWA Committee. When we identify a project we carefully assess the way the funds are spent and ensure that every rupiah donated is accountable and sustainable. Each project has a designated coordinator who monitors expenditure. Our focus is on education, health, children, the elderly and disabled. Here is just a selection of some of our projects that we have helped recently

Orphanages
As in all countries, the people who need the most help are the vulnerable which generally means the children. For some, their start in life can be bleak without the help of concerned individuals who make it their mission in life to care for these children and help them find a place in society. BWA Social Welfare supports various orphanages where children can feel safe and learn to bond with other children and maybe even start to think of a better future.

Health
BWA Social Welfare has actively involved itself in facilitating health care for babies, children and adults who cannot afford proper treatment. Apart from members visiting the sick regularly, they have also donated medical equipment to hospitals, milk for sick babies and money to pay for medicine and nursing care.

Education
In Social Welfare we believe that the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. To prepare them for this role, each and every child must have access to education and the opportunities to develop appropriate leadership skills. Unfortunately we know that, for some families in Indonesia, this is often nothing more than an impossible dream. To help make this dream a reality, BWA Social Welfare commits to funding various student sponsorship programmes to provide assistance to students of all ages to achieve their goals and full potential.

The Elderly
Another vulnerable group in society that needs our help is the Elderly who are no longer able to support themselves either financially or physically. For these people who have often worked so hard for so little all their lives, retirement can be a worrying time, especially if they have no family to turn to. BWA Social Welfare tries to help the elderly and abandoned men and women by supporting various feeding programs and by contributing to the running costs of homes and shelters for them.

Annual Gift Drop
Each year BWA has great fun organising and donating school gift bags to needy children in schools around Jakarta. Both the members of BWA and BIS students generously pay for and pack the bags, and then BWA Social Welfare, with the help of our sponsors Allied Pickfords, distribute them to students who may have never had such a wonderful gift before. We like to think that everyone involved gains so much from taking part and it has become a favorite activity with everyone in the Social Welfare team.
